The Ukrainian An-124 “Ruslan” transport aircraft has once again demonstrated its role in global air logistics. This time, it is delivering a new batch of American AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to India, intended for the country’s Army Aviation.
The operation was documented by aviation photographer KIWA Spotter, who captured the loading of three helicopters into the Ruslan’s fuselage at Leipzig Airport in Germany. The photos show that the helicopters are already painted in the Indian Army’s camouflage scheme. One of the helicopters, bearing the tail number IA7105, belongs to the new batch that will reinforce India’s military aviation.

This is not the first delivery under the current $600 million contract between the Government of India and Boeing. In July 2025 the country received the first three helicopters in this series, bearing the serials IA7101, IA7102 and IA7103. The agreement was signed in 2020 and foresees the supply of six latest‑generation AH‑64E Apache attack helicopters to India’s army. Deliveries were originally scheduled for May–June 2024, but logistical difficulties delayed the program by roughly one and a half years.
The new helicopters will join the 451st Helicopter Squadron, formed at Jodhpur as part of the army aviation modernization program. The squadron’s mission will include support for ground operations, destruction of enemy armored vehicles, and provision of close air cover for military formations during combat.

The AH‑64E Apache is among the most capable attack helicopters in service today, featuring high maneuverability, robust armor, precise weaponry, and advanced targeting systems that allow operations in all weather conditions, including at night. India already has significant experience operating these helicopters: the Indian Air Force acquired 22 Apaches under a previous contract and actively employs them in training exercises and combat preparedness activities. The new delivery for the Army Aviation will further expand the country’s operational capabilities and strengthen its overall defense potential.
