Beijing has approved the purchase of 200 U.S.-made aircraft from Boeing. The information was released by China’s Ministry of Commerce shortly after the conclusion of talks between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump, which took place in the Chinese capital.

According to the ministry’s official statement, under the terms of this large-scale aviation deal, the American side has committed to ensuring uninterrupted and sufficient supply of aircraft engines, as well as the necessary components and spare parts for the purchased aircraft. The ministry provided these details while outlining the initial outcomes of the latest round of bilateral economic and trade consultations between the two countries.

Regarding tariff issues, the relevant authorities stated that the two sides have reached a preliminary agreement in principle to discuss a framework for mutual tariff reductions. This framework is expected to cover goods of comparable scale, with a total estimated value of at least $30 billion for each side.

As clarified by a spokesperson for the Chinese ministry, goods that were identified by both sides as areas of mutual interest during the negotiations are expected, in the future, to be subject to tariffs at most-favored-nation (MFN) rates, or potentially even lower levels. In addition, Chinese authorities proposed extending the current moratorium on the introduction of new trade tariffs. The previous agreement on a one-year delay in tariff escalation was reached between Washington and Beijing during last year’s meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

The negotiations also addressed the issue of rare earth supply security. According to a statement from China’s Ministry of Commerce, both countries plan to jointly examine the situation and work toward addressing “reasonable and legitimate concerns” raised by each side.

The official also emphasized China’s willingness to engage with the United States in order to create a favorable environment for the development of mutually beneficial partnerships between business entities in both countries. In addition, joint efforts are expected to focus on ensuring the security, reliability, and stability of international production chains and supply networks.
