One of Ukraine’s leading drone manufacturers, Ukrspecsystems, has announced a major £200 million investment program in the United Kingdom. As part of the initiative, the company plans to build a new 11,000 m² factory in Mildenhall, along with a testing range and a training center in Elmswell, Suffolk. The project is expected to create up to 500 jobs and internship programs for local residents, with recruitment of British staff starting this year. Serial production of drones is scheduled to begin in early 2026.
Ukrspecsystems’ announcement comes shortly after Lotus in Norfolk announced the loss of 550 jobs, highlighting the significance of the new investment for Eastern England. The company also plans to gradually expand its operations in the UK over the next three years.

Rory Chamberlain, head of Ukrspecsystems’ UK division, emphasized that the company is proud to be the first Ukrainian firm to implement a fully funded plan for infrastructure development, job creation, and workforce training in the United Kingdom. “Our cutting-edge technology and combat-proven know-how, combined with British aviation and industrial expertise, will enable Ukrspecsystems to become a global leader in unmanned systems for both civilian and military applications, while establishing the UK as a launchpad for export markets,” he stated.

UK Minister for Defence Procurement Maria Eagle emphasized that London and Kyiv stand shoulder to shoulder, noting that allies recognize the world-class quality of Ukrainian unmanned systems development. She added that collaboration with companies like Ukrspecsystems provides access to cutting-edge solutions and technologies that will strengthen the armed forces of the United Kingdom and its partner nations.
“This £200 million investment will also enhance our industrial base and create up to 500 jobs, supporting economic growth and prosperity across the country – key elements of our future defence-industrial strategy,” said Maria Eagle.

The importance of the investment was also highlighted by local officials. Suffolk County Council member Richard Smith, responsible for finance, economic development, and education, stated that this project is a prime example of the region’s vast potential for fast-growing companies. According to him, East England is known for its strong business networks and innovative initiatives, making it an ideal location for Ukrspecsystems’ expansion in the UK. He also noted the role of the Norfolk and Suffolk Unlimited program, which provided tailored support to the investor and helped bring the project to fruition.
Ukrspecsystems, whose drones are widely used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has already confirmed its participation in the DSEI 2025 exhibition, taking place in London from September 9 to 12. The company is expected to announce new partnership agreements in the UK during the event.
