Turkish Company Unveils NanoAlp Reconnaissance Microdrone

The Turkish defense company Uludoğan has completed the development of a new micro-sized drone called NanoAlp, designed for reconnaissance tasks over short distances in challenging and high-risk environments. This rotary-wing microdrone measures just 25 cm in length. According to the company, serial production of the NanoAlp is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025.

The drone’s capabilities were demonstrated at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025. The developers emphasize that this platform is intended for operations where traditional reconnaissance and surveillance tools are too large, noisy, or vulnerable to detection. The NanoAlp aims to provide military units with real-time, accurate situational awareness in complex environments such as dense urban areas, confined spaces, or zones affected by electronic warfare measures.

In terms of concept and form factor, the NanoAlp resembles the Norwegian Black Hornet Nano, which is considered the smallest military drone in the world (more details about Black Hornet drones can be found here). The Turkish drone is designed for use by a single soldier, operates quietly, and is almost invisible to the enemy on the battlefield.

According to the company’s product description, “Developed to operate in complex tactical environments, the Uludoğan NanoAlp provides real-time situational awareness, speeds up decision-making processes, and reduces cognitive load on personnel in the field, even in environments where GPS and radio frequencies are unavailable.”

One of the main advantages of the NanoAlp is its all-weather, around-the-clock operational capability. The drone is equipped with a high-quality thermal imaging camera and an electro-optical system optimized for low-light conditions. This allows the drone to maintain effectiveness during nighttime operations or in dark indoor environments. For secure data transmission, it uses a reliable software-defined radio (SDR) that supports encrypted communication even in challenging radio frequency environments.

While detailed technical specifications have not been disclosed, the company notes that the drone features a new rotor and power unit designed to provide stability and extended endurance. This should enable longer flight times, even in conditions with wind turbulence or extreme temperatures.

Uludoğan has not yet disclosed whether there is interest in the NanoAlp from foreign buyers but notes that Turkey’s defense industry is actively expanding its drone exports. In recent years, the country has successfully introduced systems like the Bayraktar TB2 and the next-generation combat drone Kızılelma to the international market. If the NanoAlp is adopted by the Turkish Armed Forces, it could diversify the country’s drone capabilities by adding a short-range reconnaissance element directly at the tactical level.
