Bombardier has officially put its flagship aircraft, the Global 8000, into service. During a ceremony at the final assembly center in Mississauga, Canada, the first owner, Patrick Dovigi, received the keys to his new private jet. The event featured a performance by Canadian rock musician Tom Cochrane, marking a symbolic launch for the fastest civilian aircraft since the Concorde.
“Pride and excitement are just the beginning of what the entry into service of the Global 8000 means for all 18,000 Bombardier employees,” said Bombardier President and CEO Éric Martel. “Every innovation and every detail of the Global 8000 reflects the hard work, creativity, and dedication of our teams. This groundbreaking aircraft redefines the business aviation landscape with its innovative design, distinctive flight smoothness, unmatched performance, and the fulfillment of the promises we make to our customers.”

Over the past year, the Global 8000 successfully completed several key milestones. It finished its flight test program, confirmed its status as the fastest civilian aircraft since the Concorde by reaching speeds of up to Mach 0.95, and set a new record among production business jets for the lowest cabin altitude. In November, the model received certification from Transport Canada, fully meeting the scheduled timelines. Approvals from the FAA and EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) are expected soon.
The Global 8000 is the only true four-zone business jet with a range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,816 km). This enables non-stop flights between more cities than ever before. Despite its long-range capabilities, the aircraft maintains maneuverability, with takeoff and landing performance comparable to light jets. Thanks to its advanced wing with leading-edge flaps, the jet can access roughly 30% more airports than its closest competitor, covering over 2,000 destinations.
