Units of the Ukrainian Navy conducted a precision strike using Neptune cruise missiles against the Oryol Thermal Power Plant and the Novobryansk substation.

Both facilities supplied electricity to several military enterprises in the region, and their disablement dealt a significant blow to the logistical and supply infrastructure of the occupying forces. Damage to these energy sites is expected to disrupt the operation of industrial and technical facilities supporting the enemy’s military activities.

The governor of the Oryol region, however, stated that the incident was caused by a drone that had been intercepted by air defense systems, and that the damage resulted from falling debris. He also claimed there was no fire at the site.

Ukrainian military officials state that such operations are intended to weaken the adversary’s combat capability by striking critical infrastructure used to conduct operations and to supply military formations.

The incident further indicates that rear-area security for the opposing forces cannot be assumed, and that Ukrainian units continue to carry out missions aimed at disrupting enemy logistics and degrading its operational capabilities.

In addition, the Ukrainian Navy, in coordination with the Air Force and the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, recently carried out a strike on the Bryansk Chemical Plant. The large-scale combined missile and air attack included the use of Storm Shadow air-launched missiles, which the Russian air defense system failed to intercept.

Earlier reports described a joint operation by Ukrainian intelligence agencies that resulted in the destruction of a missile belonging to one of Russia’s three strategic Oreshnik complexes. The strike took place at the Kapustin Yar test range in Russia and was regarded as one of the most notable intelligence operations conducted on the territory of the aggressor state. The mission was executed jointly by the Defence Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Foreign Intelligence Service. Although it took place in the summer of the previous year, details of the operation remained classified until recently.
