During January 2026, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a series of strikes against infrastructure at the Kapustin Yar test range located in Russia’s Astrakhan region. The attacks targeted a complex of hangar facilities used for pre-launch preparation of intermediate-range intercontinental ballistic missiles.

To engage the targets, long-range strike systems of Ukrainian origin were employed. These included FP-5 Flamingo heavy cruise missiles, which were developed for engaging strategic targets deep within Russian territory (you can find out more about these rockets at this link)

According to available information, the attacks on the Kapustin Yar test range resulted in varying degrees of damage to multiple buildings. One of the hangars sustained severe damage, rendering it unusable for further operations. In addition, Russian personnel were required to evacuate part of the affected area of the test range.
