Strike drones destroyed a Russian Su-24M bomber while it was being prepared for a combat sortie at the Saky military air base in temporarily occupied Crimea. The operation was carried out by special forces from the Omega Special Purpose Center of the National Guard of Ukraine.
The unit’s combat divers once again demonstrated their ability to carry out precision strikes against high-priority enemy targets deep behind the front lines. The successful operation was announced by the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pivnenko, in a post on Facebook.

After identifying the target, the unit carried out detailed operational planning. Omega special forces strike drones attacked the aircraft just as it was being prepared for another combat sortie intended to launch strikes against Ukraine.
According to the report, the first drone hit the nose section of the Su-24M, while a second drone struck the area of the fuel tanks, ultimately destroying the aircraft. The National Guard of Ukraine said the operation is further evidence of its steadily expanding capability to employ long-range strike drones against high-value targets deep behind enemy lines.
According to Oleksandr Pivnenko, units of the National Guard’s 1st Azov Corps and 2nd Khartiia Corps are also successfully carrying out combat missions at ranges exceeding 100 kilometers. Their strikes primarily target logistics routes, ammunition depots, command posts, air defense systems, troop concentrations, and Russian military aircraft. Such operations significantly reduce the enemy’s combat capabilities, disrupt its logistics network, and force Russia to divert substantial resources to protect rear-area infrastructure. As a result, every destroyed aircraft, ammunition depot, or command post further limits the enemy’s ability to conduct military operations.
The National Guard of Ukraine says it will continue expanding its long-range precision strike capabilities, increasing the capacity of its unmanned systems units, and systematically targeting key military assets of the invading forces. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces continue operations against vessels associated with Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet.” According to the service, on July 16 its forces struck five oil tankers in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, one LNG tanker in the Black Sea, as well as three cargo ships and two tugboats, also operating in the Black Sea.
