On June 4, 2025, French Mirage 2000 fighters conducted a demonstration flight over the southwestern part of the Black Sea, following a route that traced the outline of Ukraine’s national emblem, the trident. This gesture was widely interpreted as a symbolic show of support for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression.

“The distinctive feature of this flight was its trajectory: the fighters followed a path that symbolically represented the trident, Ukraine’s national coat of arms. This route was immediately noticed on public flight tracking platforms such as Flightradar24,” stated the Ukrainian Air Force Command.

The flight path was recorded on flight tracking platforms such as Flightradar24 and quickly spread across social media and news outlets. It was tracked not only by Russian radar systems but also viewed by millions of users worldwide, appearing in social media feeds and on smartphone screens. The Ukrainian Air Force expressed gratitude to their French partners for this public display of solidarity and strategic partnership.

Earlier, in February 2025, France delivered the first Mirage 2000 fighters to Ukraine, which have since been actively used to defend Ukrainian airspace against Russian missiles and drones.

This demonstration flight over the Black Sea served not only as a symbol of support but also as a confirmation of close military cooperation between Ukraine and France.

To recap, France first announced its willingness to provide Ukraine with a portion of its Mirage 2000 aircraft in June of last year. The country operates a fleet of 24 to 28 Mirage 2000-5F fighters. In November, the government confirmed that the shipment would include six Mirage 2000-5F jets along with a full support package. These were scheduled for delivery during the first quarter of 2025.
