Turkish defense technology company Baykar has announced that the serial prototype of the Bayraktar Kizilelma has successfully completed another critical phase of flight testing. During these tests, the drone, designated as PT-3 (tail number TC-ÖZB3), performed system identification tasks to validate its design and capabilities. Baykar noted that the development of Turkey’s first jet-powered unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), Bayraktar Kizilelma, is progressing on schedule.

Bayraktar Kizilelma

Baykar continues to enhance the Bayraktar Kizilelma, introducing significant modifications to the serial prototype based on insights gained from earlier testing phases. These advancements include structural improvements, upgrades to the UAV’s avionics architecture, and the integration of an alternative engine. With this new, more powerful engine, the drone will be capable of approaching supersonic speeds while delivering exceptional maneuverability. Aerodynamic enhancements will further boost its combat performance, and the integration of a cutting-edge AESA radar will enable the execution of the most complex missions.

One of the most revolutionary features of the Bayraktar Kizilelma is its ability to operate from vessels with short runways. Designed for deployment on platforms such as Turkey’s flagship amphibious assault ship, TCG Anadolu, the Kizilelma UAV is poised to play a pivotal role in overseas operations. Its capability to take off and land on such ships will provide it with a strategic edge in maritime defense, significantly enhancing its operational versatility and effectiveness.

The Bayraktar Kizilelma UAV represents a significant leap in Turkey’s defense capabilities, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance operational efficiency and flexibility. Its stealthy design minimizes radar visibility, while its versatile combat profile and AI integration enable autonomous target prioritization and real-time coordination with other military assets.

With a length of 14.7 meters and a wingspan of 10 meters, the UAV has a maximum takeoff weight of 6,000 kg and a payload capacity of 1,500 kg, allowing it to carry a wide array of precision munitions and air-to-air missiles. Powered by the Ukrainian-made AI-322F turbofan engine, the Kizilelma achieves near-supersonic speeds of 0.9+ Mach and can remain airborne for up to five hours, showcasing impressive endurance and versatility for a range of mission profiles.

Bayraktar Kizilelma

The Bayraktar Kizilelma is poised to revolutionize the combat drone segment by combining advanced stealth features with seamless operational compatibility alongside existing aerial systems. Its development highlights Turkey’s growing prominence in the global defense industry. As serial production approaches, the drone is expected to attract significant interest in international markets. Baykar continues to refine the Kizilelma, conducting rigorous testing and introducing upgrades to ensure its capabilities remain at the forefront of military technology.
