Ukrainian forces have tracked down and destroyed a rare and high-value Russian Forpost-R reconnaissance and strike UAV capable of carrying guided munitions. The drone, which can deploy KAB-20 laser-guided aerial bombs, was detected and shot down on July 27, 2026, by operators of the 7th “Topota” Battalion of the 414th Separate Brigade “Madyar’s Birds” while flying over Russia’s Kursk Region.

To bring down the Russian UAV, estimated to be worth around $7 million, Ukrainian forces employed a Chaklun-KM interceptor drone, which successfully engaged the target at an altitude of 4,300 meters.

According to Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, Commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, who shared the information on his Facebook page, the Forpost-R is an exceptionally rare target. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, only five confirmed Forpost-R losses had previously been recorded, making today’s shootdown the sixth. For the 414th Separate Brigade “Madyar’s Birds,” it was the unit’s second confirmed kill of this type of UAV. The first was recorded in April 2025.

It was also reported that since the establishment of the Unmanned Systems Forces Grouping on June 11, 2025, its units have struck or destroyed 45,067 enemy fixed-wing reconnaissance and attack UAVs, including 43,688 confirmed kills, as well as 9,186 Shahed and Gerbera drones. Among these, the Forpost-R accounts for only the second confirmed interception. The aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight of 500 kg, an endurance of up to 18 hours, and an operational ceiling of 6,000 meters.

Recently, we also reported that Ukraine unveiled a new reusable version of its domestically developed An-196 Liutyi long-range drone at the Farnborough International Airshow. The updated configuration is equipped with four air-to-surface cruise missiles and is capable of carrying four compact missiles with a stated range of up to 200 km and a cruising speed of approximately 500 km/h.
