A glimpse of the future of battlefield logistics has gone viral. A video circulating widely on social media in recent days – even drawing the attention of military analyst Rob Lee (@RALee85 on X) – shows soldiers from Ukraine’s 3rd Separate Special Purpose Regiment “Prince Sviatoslav the Brave” receiving a food delivery from KFC in a Glovo-branded paper bag. The order, however, was not delivered by a conventional courier but by a Heavy Shot strike drone, a platform typically used to drop explosive payloads.
The 3rd Separate Special Purpose Regiment is widely regarded as one of the most capable and experienced units within Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces. The regiment has been actively engaged in combat since 2014, participating in operations during the Crimea crisis, the defense of Kyiv in 2022, and major battles in the Donbas, the Zaporizhzhia sector, and other areas along the front line.

The Heavy Shot is a heavy bomber drone developed by the Ukrainian company Gurzuf Defence. Under normal operating conditions, the platform is capable of carrying 20–30 kg of mortar rounds or other munitions over distances of up to 20 km. Owing to its proven effectiveness, the drone has been widely adopted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Special Operations Forces, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR), and the State Border Guard Service. In this particular case, however, the platform was employed in an unconventional role. Instead of carrying a combat payload, the Heavy Shot served as an aerial logistics platform, delivering food to a frontline position rather than conducting a standard strike mission.

Meanwhile, both the KFC fast-food chain and the Glovo delivery platform continue to operate in Ukraine despite the ongoing wartime conditions. Glovo allocates its operating revenue in Ukraine to initiatives supporting the country’s Armed Forces, while KFC remains one of the delivery service’s key commercial partners.
