The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has published an update in the “Weapon Components” section of the War&Sanctions portal. This time, the agency reported the identification of 68 new foreign-made components found in drones and missiles used by Russia to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and civilian areas.

The list includes parts discovered in the 9M727 Iskander-K cruise missile, the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile, North Korean ballistic missiles of the KN-23/KN-24 family, and the Geran-2 (Shahed-136) attack drone. These types of weapons were used during the large-scale combined air assault that took place overnight on October 22, targeting Ukraine’s energy facilities and civilian cities.

Despite claims of purportedly “successful localization” of Russian manufacturing, intelligence data indicate that many Russian missiles and drones still contain electronics and components of foreign origin. These include chips and parts produced in the United States, China, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan, and other countries. At the same time, supply links to Russia’s strategic partners – Iran and the DPRK – are evident in two of the six munition types used in this attack.

The GUR emphasizes that the use of imported components in the aggressor’s weapons creates security risks well beyond Europe, notably in the Indo-Pacific region and the Middle East. According to the intelligence service, current realities demand a review and strengthening of global export-control practices and coordination mechanisms between states. Existing rules appear insufficient to effectively deter the transfer of technologies that are repurposed for military use.

The Weapon Components section now documents nearly 5,200 components identified across 179 examined weapon samples. It was created to assist the international community in the technological disarmament of aggressors and in tracing sources of supply.
