At the start of the full-scale invasion, the Russian Lancet loitering munition dominated the airspace. At that time, Ukrainian forces lacked effective countermeasures in this category. However, over time, Ukrainian drone production gained momentum. One of the outcomes of this development was the Bulava strike and reconnaissance system.

Brave1

In 2023, the defense cluster Brave1 was established with the goal of advancing military technologies in Ukraine. Since its inception, the cluster has been actively involved in developing Ukrainian drones capable of striking deep behind enemy lines. The results are now visible – Ukraine produces several models of loitering munitions. These are not only comparable to the Russian Lancet but reportedly surpass it in several aspects.

Bulava

One of these developments is the Bulava strike-reconnaissance system from DEVIRO, which has already demonstrated reliable performance on the front lines. It successfully completes combat missions and outperforms the Lancet on key metrics.

The system is capable not just of destroying designated targets, but doing so with precision deep behind enemy lines, even under challenging conditions. The Bulava strike system can:

  • Destroy high-priority targets such as electronic warfare systems and air defense systems like Buk-M, Tor, and others
  • Engage both stationary and moving targets
  • Provide real-time video confirmation of target destruction

Bulava

Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, noted on his official Telegram channel that the Ukrainian development has several unique features, though for security reasons these details are not being disclosed at this time. He added, “Technology is our asymmetric advantage. The more such solutions we have, the fewer chances the enemy has.”

Meanwhile, the Brave1 defense cluster continues its efforts to keep Ukraine ahead in the technological aspect of the conflict. Recently, Ukrainian forces tested new experimental weaponry developed by one of Brave1’s members. The test resulted in the destruction of a Russian stronghold in the Kherson region using a munition weighing over 100 kilograms.
