Ukraine Destroys Two Su-34 Aircraft at Airfield in Russia’s Volgograd Region

Ukraine has carried out another successful special operation that resulted in the destruction of Russian fighter-bombers. The mission was executed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Special Operations Forces in coordination with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). As a result, two Russian Su-34 aircraft were destroyed at the Marinovka airfield in Russia’s Volgograd region, and two more were damaged.

These multirole jets are actively used by Russian forces along the front line for bombing missions, including the deployment of guided aerial bombs.

Representatives of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and the Armed Forces’ Special Operations Forces targeted the Russian fighter jets using long-range drones. The strike triggered a fire in the technical maintenance area of the airfield – a critical part of the military facility where aircraft are prepared for flights, serviced, and repaired.

“Together with our comrades, we continue efforts to weaken the air power of the Russian army,” the SBU wrote on its official Facebook page. “Military airfields and aircraft deep behind enemy lines are absolutely legitimate targets for Ukraine.”

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) recently revealed new details about Operation “Spiderweb”, which resulted in strikes on 41 military aircraft across four Russian airfields. The agency released a video outlining the timeline of events, showing how one of Ukraine’s most extensive deep-strike operations was planned and carried out behind enemy lines.

“SBU strikes – and will continue to strike – the enemy even where they think they’re out of reach! We’re working on more surprises, no less painful than Operation Spiderweb,” said SBU head Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk. He emphasized that this special operation was a direct response to Russia’s mass missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, hospitals, and energy infrastructure.

“In line with the laws and customs of war, we targeted entirely legitimate military objectives – airfields and aircraft used to bomb our civilian cities. This is real demilitarization of the Russian Federation,” Maliuk added.
