Poland Signs Major Deal with the U.S. for Fighter Jet Missiles

Poland has signed a new agreement with the United States for the purchase of several hundred AIM-120C AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missiles. The Polish Armaments Agency announced the deal, which is valued at approximately $850 million. This contract is expected to be a significant step in enhancing Poland’s air defense capabilities.

The exact number of missiles included in the deal has not been disclosed. According to the terms of the agreement, deliveries will begin in 2029 and continue through 2033. The new missiles will be integrated into the combat aircraft currently in service with the Polish Armed Forces, thereby improving their combat readiness and operational effectiveness.

Poland is actively modernizing its military capabilities to effectively address regional security challenges, and this new agreement is part of these efforts. The AIM-120C AMRAAM missiles are known for their reliability and accuracy in air combat and are not only in service with many NATO air forces but have become a key component. They are used to engage aerial targets beyond visual range and are the primary weapon for fighter aircraft such as the F-15C, F-15E, F-16, F/A-18C/D, F/A-18E/F, and the F-22.

Media reports also indicate that Warsaw and Washington are not stopping with the missile purchase. The two countries are preparing to sign another major defense contract, which could happen within this week or next. This upcoming agreement involves the acquisition of 96 Apache attack helicopters, with an estimated contract value exceeding $9 billion. With these Apache helicopters, Poland aims to modernize its outdated fleet of Soviet-era helicopters.

The Apache attack helicopters are renowned for their advanced targeting systems and versatility on the battlefield. They will provide Poland with a reliable platform capable of conducting a wide range of military operations, including close air support, reconnaissance, and anti-tank missions. This deal is set to further enhance Poland’s defense capabilities within NATO and its ability to respond to emerging threats in the region.
