On the night of June 9, units of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces, in coordination with other branches of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, struck the Savasleyka airfield located in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported on the official Facebook page of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Russian forces use the Savasleyka airfield to launch attacks on Ukrainian territory. Notably, MiG-31K fighters, which carry the Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, regularly take off from this military facility.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Ukrainian forces successfully damaged two enemy aircraft, likely MiG-31 and Su-30/34 models. Exact details of the operation’s outcomes are expected to be released later.

Additionally, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced an airstrike on a Russian military-industrial facility involved in the production of antennas for Shahed-type kamikaze drones. Units from Ukraine’s drone forces, working alongside other defense branches, targeted the facilities of VNIIIR-Progress JSC and ABS Electro LLC, located in the city of Cheboksary in the Chuvash Republic.

This facility manufactures adaptive “Kometa” antennas, which are used in Shahed-type strike drones, as well as in standardized guidance and correction modules for precision-guided bombs and other high-precision weapons. The General Staff confirmed that at least two drones successfully hit the target, and a large-scale fire broke out at the site. Detailed assessments of the damage are expected to be released later.

As a result of the airstrike, certain regions in Russia have imposed restrictions on airport operations (plan “Cover”), including Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, and Tambov. The General Staff also stated that strikes on facilities supporting Russia’s military aggression will continue until the aggression against Ukraine ceases completely.

Recently, the Ukrainian Air Force reportedly shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter in the Kursk direction. According to Ukrainian military sources, the aircraft was downed in the morning during a successful operation. The incident occurred over Russian territory, likely in the Kursk region. A video released shows the fighter burning on the ground. This is not the first time Ukrainian forces have operated at a deep operational level within Russian territory.
