Ukrainian developers have conducted tests of new kamikaze drones capable of striking targets at distances exceeding 40 kilometers. These drones are being developed to improve the effectiveness of attacks on Russian rear positions and to expand the “strike zone” on the battlefield.
According to an official statement from Brave1 — Ukraine’s defense tech development cluster — posted on Facebook, more than ten teams specializing in strike UAVs recently took part in a demonstration and testing session of their systems.
This was the first event in a series of three testing rounds aimed at the development and refinement of Ukrainian fixed-wing kamikaze drones. The goal is to create a deep strike capability within a 30–40 km range or more — a zone in which Russian forces would be unable to concentrate troops or stockpile supplies.
These kamikaze drones are expected to play a key role in disrupting enemy logistics, targeting ammunition depots, equipment, and air defense systems behind the front lines. According to Brave1, participating manufacturers had to meet specific technical standards, including the implementation of specialized video transmission systems at an affordable cost, along with several other performance requirements.
The goal of the first testing round was to evaluate the current state of domestic unmanned systems already available on the market and to identify the most effective solutions. Systems that performed well during the trials will move on to the next stage of testing, where further refinement and development will take place.
In addition to ready-made drone platforms, the event also showcased Ukrainian-made components and artificial intelligence software, which may later be integrated into future UAVs to enhance their capabilities. Representatives of Ukraine’s security and defense forces attended the event, engaged directly with developers, and received detailed reports on the outcomes of the tests.
In addition, Ukraine recently unveiled a domestically developed drone called “Batyar,” which boasts an operational range of around 800 kilometers. Initially designed as a kamikaze drone, it has since been upgraded. With the right payload and software, Batyar can now also function as a bomber or a decoy drone, expanding its tactical versatility on the battlefield.
