A new unit has been established in the Ukrainian Ground Forces—the 20th K-2 Drone Regiment, formed from the well-known K-2 mechanized battalion of the 54th Mechanized Brigade. The creation of this regiment was announced by the unit commander, Hero of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Kyrylo Veres. The primary mission of the newly formed regiment will be to protect infantry lives and provide critical support to combat units.

The regiment operates as an independent unit, having been separated from the 54th Mechanized Brigade. Currently, its military unit number is not disclosed. This information was shared by Veres in a statement made on December 8, 2024, on the official K-2 Battalion 54th Mechanized Brigade Facebook page.

“Our unit was formed back in 2014 with a small group of people. Officially, the unit was established in 2018. By 2022, we had grown into a large mechanized battalion. By 2024, we became one of the largest battalions in the Ground Forces, essentially infantry, but with some elements of modern warfare. As the commander of the K-2 Battalion, I want to officially announce that we are creating a new independent drone systems regiment,” stated Kyrylo Veres.

According to Veres, the primary tasks of the regiment will be to preserve the lives of personnel and maintain the designated area of responsibility. “Therefore, I want to announce a large recruitment to our ranks. We will gladly consider candidates who wish to transfer from other units, if the opportunity arises. As for the guys who temporarily left their positions, what people commonly call ‘SZCh,’ we won’t delve into the reasons for that,” added Lieutenant Colonel Veres.

It is noted that the work will take place both in the rear and at the front lines. People from various professions will be needed, ranging from drivers and clerks to drone operators and engineers for different types of UAVs. “There will be plenty of vacancies. There will be a lot of work. From small tasks to large ones. From the guys who will assemble the drones to specialists who will deploy and direct them to a target or complete a specific mission. We also need support personnel in the unit. In simple terms, we are creating a very large family, and we invite everyone to join our ranks,” concluded Veres.
