A Su-30SM multirole fighter jet was destroyed at the “Rostov-on-Don Central” airfield in Russia, according to a report from Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence. The estimated value of the aircraft is around $50 million. The agency notes this as another act of resistance within Russia, describing the incident as part of growing opposition to the Putin regime. The jet, marked with the number “35,” reportedly caught fire and was completely destroyed.
“The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reminds: every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people will be met with just retribution,” the agency emphasized.
The Su-30 is a Soviet/Russian twin-seat, multirole fighter of the 4++ generation, developed based on the Su-27UB. It is designed for air superiority missions, long-range patrols, escorting long-range aviation aircraft, radar surveillance, targeting and control operations. Additionally, it can serve as a combat training aircraft.
Unlike the Su-27UB, the Su-30 is capable of carrying out long-range missions with extended flight durations and provides effective control over a group of fighter aircraft. It features in-flight refueling systems, modern navigation suites, upgraded equipment for managing coordinated operations, and an improved life support system. The addition of newer missile systems and a refined weapons control system has significantly enhanced the Su-30’s combat capabilities.
