Elbit Systems Deutschland has been awarded a significant contract by Lufthansa Technik to equip a German government Airbus A350 aircraft with its advanced Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) system, known as J-MUSIC. This agreement, commissioned by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support, spans a five-year period.

This marks the first deployment of Elbit Systems’ DIRCM technology on the Airbus A350, expanding the company’s growing portfolio, which already includes several installations on various aircraft types. Wolfgang Bauer, CEO of Elbit Systems Deutschland, expressed pride in the collaboration with Lufthansa Technik. “We are proud to work with Lufthansa Technik on this important project and look forward to further strengthening the impact and trust in our solutions,” Bauer stated in his remarks.

The J-MUSIC DIRCM system is designed to provide critical protection for aircraft against modern surface-to-air missiles. It incorporates advanced laser and imaging technologies, delivering an effective and proven solution for both military and commercial platforms worldwide. Elbit Systems highlights that the system’s effectiveness in safeguarding high-value assets has established it as a market leader in self-defense technologies.

Oren Sabag, CEO of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW, emphasized the growing global demand for such systems. “As threats continue to escalate, more countries are turning to Elbit Systems’ self-defense solutions to protect their fleets,” he stated. Sabag added that the DIRCM system is capable of countering evolving threats, ensuring reliable performance, and integrating seamlessly with various types of aircraft.

Michael von Puttkamer, Vice President of Special Aircraft Services at Lufthansa Technik, highlighted the necessity of enhanced protection for Germany’s political and parliamentary aircraft. He pointed to increasing global instability and the heightened threat posed by surface-to-air missiles. “The security situation requires Germany to ensure the safety of its leadership,” he stated. “We are proud to collaborate on this project with Elbit Systems and Airbus and look forward to contributing our expertise and knowledge.”
