Poland and Raytheon are looking to manufacture 48 Patriot launchers

Under the Poland Wisla program, Raytheon has a €1.13 billion contract to help produce 48 M903 launchers. These launchers will strengthen the Polish air defence system around the region. Working closely with Raytheon on this project will be the Polish military equipment manufacturer Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW).

Raytheon is a leader in the development and manufacturing of radars, electro-optical sensors, and other electronic systems for use in various defence industries. Their systems are used for airborne, naval, and land defence by various military organizations around the world. Now they are going to be responsible for the production of airborne defence launchers for the Polish government, and this will put various radar technologies to use.

According to reports, this missile launcher system will bring a lot of components into play. It will consist of “two generators, a detection and tracking radar system, a command-and-control station, an antenna mast group, and up to eight M903 launcher stations containing four PAC-2 or 16 PAC-3 interceptor missiles.” With this, the Polish government will be able to intercept ballistic missiles.

Over the past months, the world has come to see the Russian use of ballistic missiles in their invasion of Ukraine. Other countries in the region and member states of NATO must have systems like this that the Polish government is working to develop. Other firms like Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów and Wojskowe Zakłady Elektroniczne will also help in the development of these missile launchers.

This contract between Poland and Raytheon will kick off and deliveries will start between 2027-2029. With over 48 Patriot launchers, the Polish government will be able to protect its airspace from ballistic attacks. More details on this contract and the development of the Patriot missile launchers will become available over the coming months.
